A couple of years ago my dad and I bought this 5x6 foot painting from Grant Nimmo. It hangs next to my bed. Every day I go to sleep and wake up looking at it. It bring me great joy. There is an enormous amount of peace and stillness that he has created within it, a quality that is rare in a lot of paintings.
Here are a few of his latest paintings. They make me want to pack up my bags, leave the city and live in the wilderness. Maybe when I'm older and crazier.

The painting is coming along. It's just hard finding enough free time to finish it.
I'm using the film Tekkonkinkreet as a colour reference. At the moment I'm just laying down the base colours. After I'm happy with the colour balance I'll work on the tone, then the detail.

This is a painting I'm working on. It's an Indonesian pirate ship. I'm interested the communal natural of confined spaces, much like a family travelling in a convey van. Below is the pencil sketch and the underpainting. If this goes well I might book a show sometime in the future.

I found out about Christopher Mir's paintings from Sean Wheelan's blog. I love how his characters inhabit the environment. And how the abstract lines and shapes cut through the image.
Visit his Chistopher Mir's website to see the rest of his paintings.
